Using the pencil as an extension of her inner world, Wendy van Rijn explores in her drawings how emotions, memories and thoughts relate to the spaces we inhabit. Each line, shade, and nuance of color acts as a visual echo of her emotional state – an intuitive cartography of the invisible, where inner experience and physical space become intertwined.

Emerging from a sense of emotional absence in her surroundings – a subtle, often unspoken void – van Rijn translates this perception into abstract, sensorial imagery. In her drawings, impressions of domestic objects or weather phenomena are sometimes visible and transformed into carries of mood, memory and resonance.

Her visual language consists of energetic lines, symbolic fragments, and layered marks. Together, they form a personal grammar of stillness and intensity – a drawn language in which the tangible and the elusive converge.
